Lessons in Drums & Other Instruments
At our music school, students pursue interests in all aspects of drum set performance, as well as jazz vibraphone, orchestral percussion, and world percussion. As the student develops, we incorporate jazz piano as a tool for understanding all of the elements of music, including rhythm, harmony, melody, counterpoint, and form.
In addition to these areas of study, Michael’s wife, Mineko, teaches the violin. Contact us for details on Mineko’s availability.
Monthly Jam Sessions
Every month, students have the chance to jam with professionals at the Leonia Presbyterian Church in Leonia, New Jersey. Sessions are held Wednesdays, Saturdays, and the second Friday of every month at 8:00 p.m.
Recording Studio Time
In our main studio, we have a professional recording studio where we teach students how to record music, as well as how to run a recording studio. We have added a private archive resource for our student’s recordings, along with conventional and shared recitals with Mineko Yajima’s violin students.
Many students who study at our school go on to attend leading colleges and conservatories, including the Manhattan School of Music, the Eastman School of Music, Berklee College of Music, and Northwestern University.
Previous students have also entered and graduated from the Juilliard School, Rutgers University, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Berklee College of Music, New York University, and the City College of New York. Of those, many are now working in major orchestras and on Broadway, and are teaching, performing, and leading musically enriched lives.
